Dr. Gretchen Godbee

Dr. Gretchen Godbee is originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and earned her Bachelor of Science in 1989 and her Master of Arts in 1991 in Communication Disorders. She worked in San Antonio for two years as a Speech Pathologist. From there, she moved to Alexandria, Louisiana and worked as a Speech Pathologist at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital for seven years before attending veterinary school. She graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. She joined the Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic team in April of 2006. As a veterinarian, Dr. Gretchen's focus is small animal internal medicine, exotics, and pocket pets.

Dr. Gretchen’s pet family includes 3 dogs (Betty, Delilah, & Tess) and 2 cats, Tumbleturk and Mr. Dagnabit. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies (old and new-she really loves Turner Classic Movie Channel and Movies & Music on the Lawn), yoga, going to see live music, and spending time with her beasts.

Dr. Gretchen's favorite parts of working at Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic are, 'I love the pets and their people. We truly have a wonderful clientele at Azalea Lakes. I also love the variety of patients/species that we see and serve here. And of course, I love our staff, many of whom have worked here for several years, which really says something about Dr. Suzie and her practice.'

  • “LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Azalea Lakes. It was recommended to me by a friend and I've been a client/"family member" for the past 8ish years. They love their clients, their staff, and their animals. I live on the other side of town and I will happily make the drive to get there because of how they treat me and have treated all of my animals.”

    Cora B.
  • “Izzy is our new puppy. She loves doctor Gretchen! We've been taking the cats there for 15 years. Now we'll be taking the dog for 15 more. There is no other staff I would trust with my animal children.”

    Jamie S.
  • “They care about animals & owners, it is why they do everything they do & it shows!”

    Mike D.
  • “I love these doctors!! I wish I had known about them years ago. I have a very difficult 20 pound cat that was usually a terror at the vet but the first time I brought her in to Dr. Susie she was very calm and just lay there while Dr. Susie checked her out. I have a rescued Persian cat and a teacup poodle that have seen each of the doctors at Azalea and they love all of the ladies. The office staff is awesome, also. I would highly recommend Azalea Lakes to anyone.

  • “Everyone at the clinic is so helpful! They care about the babies brought in and treat them that way! They understand that these "pets" are apart of your family and will give them the best care as if they were there own. I will never leave! Thank you for all of you wonderful experiences!”

    Shasta F.
  • “Caring, helpful and affordable! Brought my puppy to get treated for heart worms, neutered and had a great experience! They help to keep my puppy healthy! I will continue to use them in the future! Recommended Vet Clinic!”
